About the MADD Blog
This is a blog for the Second Specialism for the Arts in Tapton School Sheffield. It will feature the activities in school and the outreach work of the four departments concerned; Music,Art, Dance and Drama.
Tapton is a Specialist College for Science and the Arts. We have 1670 students aged between 11 and 18 years old. They were very successful, in 2009, 100% achieved 5 A* - G passes at GCSE, 80% achieved 5 or more A* - C passes at GCSE. 98% pass rate for all A Level examinations, 61% of all exams taken were A and B grades.
In December 2007, we were delighted to be awarded our second specialism in Creative Arts. This newly acquired specialist status incorporates Music, Art and Drama and further enforces the school's strengths in the arts as recognised in our existing Artsmark Gold award.
Our aim is to ensure that our second specialism in Creative Arts benefits everyone in the Tapton school community, not only our own students and staff but our feeder school partners, secondary school partners and members of our wider community. Our Creative Arts subjects will be in a position to offer new improved resources, a wider variety of enrichment and extra curricular opportunities and will encourage increased emphasis on a creative approach to learning across all subjects.
These are exciting times for our school and we hope every member of our school community shares our enthusiasm for the arts and embraces the many opportunities that will come your way. If you wish to know more about our plans for this new specialism or would like to let us know how Creative Arts can be of real benefit to you then come along and speak to us. Your thoughts, feelings and opinions are really important to us.
